About Me

Matthew Levy

Upon graduating from the University of Southern California, I began my professional life working in various capacities of the entertainment business. While working on a film as the assistant to the producer, I was charged with the task of having to order logoed duffel bags for the cast and crew. Little did I know that those logoed duffel bags would change my life forever. It was that assignment that led me into the world of branded promotional and marketing merchandise. Shortly thereafter, I started the Logo Shop selling my products and services into all industries (including many films and television shows).

In 2008 I had a unique opportunity to obtain the license for a valuable intellectual property which allowed me the chance to try something new and exciting still within the merchandise industry. I launched the 10 Again Clothing Company specializing in nostalgic, ultra-cool, graphic tee-shirts. Four short months later, I had shirts in Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Urban Outfitters, and Forever 21.

10 Again presented a very exciting period for me during which I learned a tremendous amount. Having products in great stores was incredibly fulfilling but only to a point. The downside came with the completely impersonal nature that now goes hand in hand with selling into that type of environment. Simply put, I missed working with people and the happiness and satisfaction they experienced from the products and services I was able to provide them. After four years, I decided to follow Steve Jobs advice to “do what I love and love what I do.” For me, that meant saying goodbye to 10 Again and a return to selling promotional products which I happily did when I joined PromoShop at the end of 2012.

When I am not selling promotional merchandise, you’ll find me hanging with my wife and two children (12 and 14), or playing guitar with my rock cover band, Geezer. I enjoy writing so I’ve decided to chronicle my re-entry into the promotional products world through the blog: theumbrellaguy.wordpress.com. Also, I often tweet about new products as well as  informative things I’ve read @CustomMerchGuru.
